The International Conference on Radioactive Waste, Solutions for a Sustainable Future was held physically in Vienna, and was attended by 250 participants, while another 600 followed the presentations and the debates on-line.

Andra presented multiple aspects of its activities, including an update on Cigéo progress (the French Deep Geological Disposal facility project), or technical issues as the funicular that will link the surface and underground facilities in Cigéo,  the integrated waste management strategy implemented in France, or the development of a safety case, which was addressed in a keynote.  Andra also presented an interersting socio-economic assessment of the DGR project, considered as an insurance against possible technical decline of our society. These diverse contributions were presented orally or with e-posters.

After nearly 2 years of travel restrictions, it was a welcome opportunity to meet the IAEA officers managing the numerous networks and programs in which Andra is involved, the members of the French permanent mission in Vienna, and of course our colleagues from around the world who attended the conference.

It was indeed a very fruitful week!
