Why Cigéo?

High-level waste (HLW) and intermediate-level long-lived waste (ILW-LL) require a dedicated long-term management solution due to their radioactivity and the length of time for which they remain hazardous. Cigéo is being developed to provide that solution through deep geological disposal, with the objective of ensuring the long-term protection of people and the environment.
