IDKM: the new international platform on memory keeping

From 22 to 24 January in Paris, Andra participated in the first meeting of IDKM (information, data and knowledge management), a new international research and work platform on knowledge and memory in the context of management radioactive waste.

Created by the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) of the OECD, IDKM brings together various international organizations, including Andra, involved in the subject of memory keeping. The 30 participants of the launch meeting discussed and prepared the four lines of research and work that will structure this international platform: the safety assessment file, knowledge management, archiving and the various memory keeping projects. These four axes cover the different time scales of the life of a radioactive waste disposal facility, from the preparation of the application for the construction license to the long term, many millennia after its closure.

Through its "Memory program for future generations", Andra is more particularly involved in the last two topics. The Agency may in particular present its work on the synthetic memory file for the Manche disposal facility, compiled as part of the periodic site safety analysis update.
