Posiva awards construction contract for the encapsulation plant in Olkiluoto

Posiva, Andra's Finnish counterpart, has taken another step in its project to dispose of the Spent Nuclear Fuel

Posiva announced, on June 25, 2019, a financial investment allowing the construction of the encapsulation plant, and signed the contract agreement on its construction. The spent nuclear fuel will be packed in disposal canisters made of copper and cast iron in the  encapsulation plant.

This investment brings Posiva even closer to obtaining an operation license for its geological disposal facility. On 25 November 2016, the country's Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (Stuk) declared Posiva, Andra's Finnish counterpart, to be able to begin construction of the deep-seated Nuclear Fuel Disposal Center. Located in Olkiluoto, Finland. It will be built 450 meters deep.
