Three new documents are on-line!:
The Cigéo project, The National Inventory Essentials, and All You Need To Know About Waste Management
The document are available in our Publications and can be downloded here
Essentials 2021 presents an update to the stocks of radioactive materials and waste present on French soil on 31 December 2019. It therefore does not include the discussions taking place as part of the preparation of the fifth National Radioactive Materials and Waste Management Plan (PNGMDR), following the public debate organised by the French National Public Debate Commission in 2019. With every new edition of the National Inventory, Andra draws up “forecast inventories” that provide estimates of the quantities of materials and waste based on several contrasting scenarios relating to the future of nuclear facilities and France’s long-term energy policy. The forecast inventories from the last edition of the National Inventory (2018) are provided in Essentials 2021. The National Inventory is a valuable tool for guiding French policy on the management of radioactive materials and waste.
All of the data from the National Inventory is available on the dedicated website at inventaire.andra.fr and as open data at data.gouv.fr.

The Cigeo project, led by the French National Radioactive Waste Management Agency (Andra) consists of the disposal of the most highly radioactive waste, which is also very long-lived, in a deep geological repository at a site straddling the Meuse and Haute-Marne departments in Northeast France, to protect humans and the environment from this hazardous waste over the very long term.
The French Parliament adopted the principle of deep geological disposal over ten years ago as the safest solution for this waste. France is not alone in opting for deep geological disposal: this is the favoured option at European and international level too.
The Cigeo project is the outcome of more than 25 years of regularly reviewed research, three laws passed in 1991, 2006 and 2016, and two public debates held in 2005 and 2013. It meets the ethical imperative of removing the burden of managing this waste from future generations.
Andra: all you need to know about waste management
Andra is a state-owned undertaking of an industrial and commercial nature created by the law of December 30, 1991. Its mission was extended by the framework act of June 28, 2006 governing the sustainable management of radioactive materials and waste, then clarified by the 2016 law on reversibility and the terms of creation of Cigéo. Whilst independent of the radioactive waste producers,
Andra is placed under the supervision of the ministers for Energy, Research and the Environment.
